Chicagoland is home to dozens of organizations that accept clothing, furniture, household goods and personal items to repurpose and distribute to those in need. 👉Read on to learn about where you can donate!

Spring isn’t the only time of year when you can take the opportunity to declutter your home. Better yet, now is a great time to consider donating gently used clothing and other items to resale stores, shelters and people in need. Not only does this help others, but it also reduces waste by keeping items out of landfills — a small but impactful step toward addressing a growing global issue.

Fortunately, Chicagoland is home to dozens of organizations that accept clothing, furniture, household goods and personal items to repurpose and distribute to those in need. Below, we’ve highlighted a few to help you get started, though many more are equally deserving of your time and donations.

Partners for Our Communities

1585 N. Rand Rd, Palatine, IL 60074

While going through your things, you may find that you have professional-quality clothing items, children’s items or winter clothing that you just don’t need anymore. Whether you’ve changed career paths or just changed sizes, you can donate these clothes to a good cause at Partners for Our Communities. This organization’s mission is to help newly immigrated families and those struggling to make ends meet in Palatine and nearby communities. They offer employment assistance, adult and child tutoring and leadership classes. Their community closet always needs children’s clothing, smaller men’s clothing and women’s petite sizes.  Find out more here.
